Rosary High School, Navelim, Bethany Convent High School, Sao Jose de Areal and Holy Spirit Institute, Margao advanced to next round of Subroto Mukherjee Cup football tournament for boys under-17 after registering wins in their respective matches played at artificial turf grounds, Fatorda–Margao, on Tuesday.
In the day’s first match, Rosary HS defeated Our Lady of Health HS, Cuncolim 4-3 via tie-breaker after their encounter ended in a goalless draw during the regulation time.
It was a close contest between the two sides wherein the goalkeeper from either side proved to be a safe pair of hands.
Rosary HS keeper Mehboob Hussain brought off smart saves in the first half, while in the second session it was the turn of Vivek Singh, goalkeeper of Our Lady of Health HS who stood tall with some spectacular saves. The defence of both the teams also held their ground firmly, quelling all the moves that were made from either side.
In the resulting penalty shootout, Noah Luis, Adarsh Raj, Viresh Akki and Richard Kullu scored for Rosary HS whereas for Our Lady of Health HS only Rahul Rodrigues, Jollyton Fernandes and Rehan Sheikh could be on target.
In the second match, Bethany Convent HS, Sao Jose de Areal thrashed Infant Jesus HS, Colva 4-0. Adelide stole the show for Bethany Convent scoring a brace (9th and 33rd minute), while their other two goals were scored by Ashwin Costa (41st minute) and Evangelist Gomes (50th minute).
In the last match of the day, Holy Spirit Institute, Margao hammered Vidya Vikas Academy 4-0 as Rehan Bawadi (3rd minute), Tahir Sheikh (32nd minute), Treston Noronha (39th minute) and Sehal Rodrigues (45th minute) contributed with a goal each.
