MARGAO: Six visitors to the south Goa Collectorate building on Tuesday and one on Wednesday morning were trapped in the two different lifts of the building. The reasons were mainly due to the fluctuating power supply which failed to give backup to the generator installed in the building.
The people who were trapped in the lift included a senior citizen and were rescued by the fire brigade. The incident occurred at around 4 pm.
One of the victim’s said, “For nearly fifteen minutes, we were trapped in the lift and there was no one to attend to us. Finally, the fire brigade personnel rescued us”.
This is not the first time that people were trapped in the lift as it has happened to PWD Minister Ramkrishna Dhavalikar and Benaulim MLA Churchill Alemao too.
Sources from the collector’s office said that besides the staff, each day around 750 people visit the offices of the South Goa collectorate including senior citizens.
Most of them visit the mamlatdar and the sub registrar office.
On Wednesday too many elderly people were found climbing the steps to visit the respective government offices.
When the district collector Anjali Sehrawat was contacted she said there was a technical problem, which will be resolved soon. “The generator installed could not be charged because of low voltage. The overall maintenance of the building has been given to the PWD. There are certain aspects which need to be rectified in the building and the matter has been conveyed to the government.” she said.
