Dalgado Konknni Akademi (DKA) condoles the sudden death of Konkani novelist Bonaventure Peter Fernandes popularly known as Bonaventure D’Pietro. His death fell days before the release of his biography, ‘Vattliechea Avazan – Mhoji Jivit Kotha’.
A prolific writer, D’Pietro wrote 18 books out of which 12 are novels. In the 1960s, 70s and 80s his novels mesmerised Konkani readers particularly the readers of Konkani in the Roman script. His novels include ‘Kallea Vistidachi Choli’, ‘Clara’, ‘Tichea Morna Uprant’, ‘Mhojea Paicho Fond’, ‘Ek Bhett Mungllurchea Xarak’, ‘Janya – Celi’ among others.
He scripted books on other topics too. His book ‘Songit Doulot Goykaranchi’ documents the contribution of Goan musicians to music not only in Goa but also in the Bollywood. His book ‘Sankoll’ (translated in English as ‘Forever Yours’) documents the way weddings in Goan Catholic families took place in the past.
D’Pietro was also an excellent musician and mastered many musical instruments such as the saxophone, trumpet, violin, etc. He has also scripted many tiatrs and helped in the promotion and development of the tiatr industry in the state.
His last book, ‘Vattliechea Avazan – Mhoji Jivit Kotha’ documents his life and will be released by DKA at a special function to be held on July 14 at 4 p.m. at the multipurpose hall of the Art and Culture Department, Patto on the occasion of his 80th birth anniversary.
