Regina Martyrum hit Kings for six




A hat-trick by Razia Pereira and a goal each by Suveda Kokali, Daisy Crasto and Clency Miranda enabled Regina Martyrum High School, Assolna register a 6-0 win against the Kings School, Sao Jose de Areal in the Subroto Mukherjee Cup Under-17 Football Tournament for girls played at Nehru stadium, Fatorda on Monday.

Packed with four national players – Razia, Meyra D’Silva, Clency and Daisy – Regina Martyrum HS dictated terms right from the start till the end of the match.

Regina Martyrum HS went into the lead in the 5th minute of play through Razia who dodged the entire rival defence before slamming the ball past the bewildered Kings School keeper Adora Cardozo.

Attacking medio Suveda Kokali then buttressed the lead in the 8th minute and then Razia scored her second goal off a pass by Suveda.

Controlling the proceedings through total domination, Regina Martyrum thereafter made the score 3-0 in their favour through a goal scored by Daisy.

Regina Matyrum who led 4-0 at half time, scored two more goals in the second session which saw Clency scripting her name to the score in the 30th minute and soon thereafter Razia completed her hat trick of goals after putting up a dazzling display in the 35th minute. Soon after this goal, came the signal from the Regina Martyrum coach to just play football with swift passes and positional play  and the team did just that, even though they could have score more goals at  will.

In the other matches of the day, Manovikas English HS defeated Auxilium High School, Benaulim by a solitary goal. The all important goal for Manovikas English High School was scored by Gretel Pereira.

In yet another match, Fatima Convent High School thrashed St Anthony’s High School, Majorda 5-0.

Meloshka Carvalho scored a hat-trick for the winners while the other two goals were scored by Paloma Pires and Swellen Fernandes.

All the three winners have entered the second round of the tournament.
