Goa Multi-Faculty College, Dharbandora inaugurated its Red Ribbon Club at the hands of chief guest and MLA, Ganesh Gaonkar. Present at the inaugural were dignitaries from Goa State AIDS Control Society and Health Centre, Dharbandora; principal, Manasvi Kamat; deputy director, information, education, communication and social mobilisation (IEC), Umakant Sawant; assistant director, Youth GSACS, Jeunesse Fernandes, assistant director, IEC, Sunita Arudra; medical superintendent, Pradeep Shinkre and health officer, Sandesh Madkaikar.
Convenor of the club, Sonam Gondlekar welcomed the gathering and outlined the club’s purpose. Jeunesse Fernandes delivered the oath to student members of the club. In her address Kamat urged students to be active agents and create an AIDS free society. She emphasised on the role students can play in creating awareness on the disease.
While addressing students Gaonkar appreciated Goa State AIDS Control Society for taking up the initiative of instituting RRC in all colleges. He also praised the society for creating awareness amongst varied fragments of society by means of AIDS sessions, videos, film clippings, etc.
Sawant highlighted how AIDS cases have been declining over the years and emphasised on the precautions one can take in order to prevent AIDS. Sandesh Madkaikar assured students that th health centre would collaborate with the college and help create awareness by way of talks, street plays, quizzes, sessions, etc.
