GCA announces office bearers
PANAJI: The newly-elected president of Goa Cricket Association (GCA) Chetan Desai Thursday nominated following members as the office bearers of the association: Dr Venkatesh Ganesh Prabhu Dessai (1st vice-president), Suraj Lotlikar (2nd vice-president), Manohar Pango Naik (3rd vice-president), Vinod Phadke (hon secretary), Akbar Mulla (hon treasurer), Desh Kinlekar (1st jt secretary), Jamil Daud Carol (2nd jt secretary), Mohan Chodankar (member), Shrikrishna N Tari (member), Daya Pagi (member), Vijay Gaonkar (member), Abdul Majid (member), Yatin Kamurlikar (member) and Sujay Kumar Netravalkar (life member).
Dunes down Merces
MAPUSA: Dunes SC registered a comfortable 2-0 win over Merces SC to advance in the 17th Vagator Soccer Cup 2015, organised by Vagator PYSC and played at Vagator grounds, Thursday. In the first session of play both the teams lost a golden opportunity to open their account. Glenson Britto and Sylvester Dias scored a goal each in Dunes win.
Nitish in joint lead with four others
PANAJI: Top seed CM Nitish Belurlkar in joint lead with four points along with Audi Ameya, Anant Prabhudesai, Nandini Saripalli and Gaura Madkaikar at the end of round four of the State Senior FIDE rating Chess Championship 2015 being held at Khorlim, Mapusa on Thursday. Following players are on second position with 3.5 points each: Aditee Prabhugaonkar, Sunad Govekar, Milind Gauns, Mendonca Leon Luke and Barde Om.
GSA celebrates its 25th annual day on Aug 1
PANAJI: Goa Softball Association (GSA) will celebrate its 25th Annual Day on August 1 at GUJ hall, Shramashakti Bhavan, Patto-Panaji. Power Minister Milind Naik will be the chief guest for the function which will begin at 4 pm. Vasco MLA and KTC chairman Carlos Almeida will also be present. National softball players, officials and volunteers who participated and rendered services to organise 3rd Junior National Softball Championship at NPT ground Vasco recently will be awarded participation certificates. GSA president Dharma V Chodankar will preside over the function.

Selection trials for south zone softball nationals at Campal tomorrow
PANAJI: Selection trials for Goa’s men and women softball teams, which will participate in the South Zone National Softball Championship 2015 to be held at Anantpur Andhra Pradesh from August 8 to 10, will be held on Saturday, July 18 from 3.30 pm at Campal ground. The coaching camp for the teams will be held from July 20 to August 5 at Campal ground. Interested men and women softball players and umpires may register their names with the office bearers of the association at Campal ground on July 18 before 3.30 pm.
U-15, U-18 I-League start in September
PANAJI: All India Football Federation (AIFF) in a circular to the Goa Football Association (GFA) has communicated that it intends to start the U-15 and U-18 I-League from September onwards. Interested academies/teams who are not part of the Hero I-League and 2nd division league can participate in the youth league by getting themselves certified under the AIFF’s Academy Certification Programme. They can also send a request on email to firstname.lastname@example.org with a copy to email@example.com.
YMCA veterans TT tourney on July 19
PANAJI: YMCA has organised an all Goa veterans TT tournament for 40+, 50+ and 60+ categories on July 19 from 10 am at Don Bosco Oratory Hall. Entries may be submitted to Deepak Gopani at Selection shop, Panaji latest by July 18 till 5 pm.
Football tourney at Duler from tomorrow
PANAJI: Late Mathew Braganza Memorial 1st All Goa Veterans Football Tournament, organised by Morod-Angod Friend Circle Mapusa will be held at Duler Football Stadium, Mapusa on July 18. The inaugural match will be played between Loutolim Veterans (Joe Cookies) and Nuvem Veterans (Marc Caterers) from 4.45 pm. Ryan Braganza, ex-councillor of Mapusa Municipal Council, will be the chief guest.
