‘Queen of comedy’ comes to Goa

The winner of the TLC programme ‘Queens of Comedy’, Niveditha Prakasam will star alongside Biswa Kalyan Rath at the LOLStar show on March 26, 7 p.m. at Entertainment Society Goa, Panaji.

‘Queens of Comedy’, India’s first female comedy show, was launched in 2017 and saw eight girls competing to bag the ‘funniest’ title. The show was judged by actress Richa Chadha, Rohan Joshi from AIB, and Kaneez Surka. Prakasam, a graduate in automobile engineering walked away with the title. Ever since then she has been performing alongside stand-up comedians in the business like Kanan Gill, Varun Thakur and Rahul Subramanian.

Biswa Kalyan Rath is an Indian stand-up comedian, writer, and YouTuber who came into prominence with the YouTube comedy series, ‘Pretentious Movie Reviews’ with fellow comedian Kanan Gill. Since then he has created a name for himself in the comedy space.

The Goa show with the two comedians promises to be a lot of laughter and fun. It will also focus on providing opportunities to female comedians.

Founder of Las Viegas Comedy Club (LVC) and comedian Warren Viegas says that through LVC they intend to create a space for women comedians. “Comedy worldwide can feel like a boys club. But I believe that tide is shifting with specials like Hannah Gadsdy’s ‘Nannette’ on Netflix getting worldwide critical acclaim,” he says.

Speaking about the #Metoo controversies which involved comedy’s dethroned King Louis CK, he further says that at LVC they wish to create an environment conducive for female employees and artistes. “We’ve been fortunate to work with Aditi Mittal, Urooj Ashfaq, Sumaira Shaikh and Kaneez Surka among others,” he adds.

(Tickets for the show are available at Champs Sports Store (Panaji) and Insider.in. Details: 7972976612.)
