Art for Vision, an exhibition cum sale of paintings to raise funds for the Rotary Eye Bank and other social projects is being organised by the Rotary Club of Panaji. Curated by Naguesh Rao Sardessai, the exhibition will showcase paintings of more than 30 Goan artists under one umbrella.
“I guess this is the first time more than 30 of Goa’s established and promising artists are coming together for a cause”, says Manoj Patil, president of Rotary Club of Panaji.
“When the curator of the exhibition Naguesh Sardessai approached the artists they immediately agreed to paint specially for the exhibition as it was for a specific cause”, he says adding that many of the artists have pledged to donate all money raised to the fund.
Each artist will participate with two works of art created especially for the exhibition. While all paintings are made in the same size – 12 inch x 12 inch – artists have chosen themes of their choice. Though these paintings would have been priced higher if exhibited anywhere else, for this fundraising exhibition prices have been intentionally kept low, between
` 6000 and ` 12000, to attract buyers.
The funds thus raised will be mainly used for the Rotary Eye Bank and other social projects like medical camps, entrepreneurship development programmes and literacy projects, among others. “Though there are many deaths in Goa, there are hardly any corneas that are inoculated. We plan to use the funds raised extensively for awareness campaigns as it is the need of the hour”, says Patil.
The oragnisers are hopeful that they will manage to raise more than five lakh rupees. “This time we plan to bring in new buyers into the fold so that Goan artists can benefit. The initiative will also help in promoting the art”, says Naguesh Rao Sardessai, curator of the exhibition.
(The exhibition will be inaugurated on November 8 at ICG, Dona Paula at 6 p.m. and will remain open till November 9 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.)
