Power dept JE suspended pending inquiry over bribe




Junior engineer of Div-XI, Vasco of electricity department Vishwanath Bhat, who was deployed at section station office Cortalim-II, has been placed under suspension for allegedly accepting bribe.

As per information from highly-placed sources in the electricity department, the order of suspension was issued on June 8 by the chief electrical engineer N N Reddy pending inquiry and forwarded to the Div-XI, Vasco on Friday.

Footage of Bhat, who was deployed at section station officer Cortalim II, was caught in a mobile camera in a sting operation conducted by a consumer Makbul Abdul, a resident of Quelossim while accepting bribe for the purpose of giving power connection for domestic purpose. He had filed a complaint with the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) and the matter is under investigation.

Meanwhile, Power Minister Pandurang Madkaikar has said that he will initiate action against the corrupt employees in his department. He has requested people not to give bribe to officers and employees of his department. He also urged people to come out with complaints against corrupt officers with the concerned department or to him in order to initiate prompt and necessary action and to stop corruption in the department.
