PANAJI: The state election commission on Tuesday decided to hold elections to three village panchayats of Kasarvane, Alorna and Chandel-Hasapur of Pernem taluka on December 10.
The details on poll schedule for these three panchayats will be declared next week by the state poll panel.
“In the month of June and July out of the total 191 panchayats in the state 186 panchayats went to poll… Five panchayats are yet to go to polls… so out of those remaining five, the tenure of the three panchayats in Pernem taluka is ending somewhere around December 20. Therefore I will hold elections to these three VPs on December 10,” said state election commissioner R K Srivastava while speaking to ‘The Navhind Times’.
“As the five-year term of Taleigao and Arvalem VPs is ending next year, election will be held in these both VPs in 2018,” he added.
Srivastava said that delimitation of wards in the poll-bound Pernem panchayats has been completed by the government. Reservation of women wards has also been completed. However, reservation of wards for OBCs, STs and SCs are currently being undertaken which will be notified later by the government.
“By next week we will come out with the election schedule and notification,” he said.
