PANAJI: Crime branch police probing the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC) body goof-up case will summon again for questioning Dr Edmundo Rodrigues the suspended head of the department of forensic medicine and toxicology, GMC and also the other two suspended employees. The police had earlier questioned Dr Rodrigues, the suspended junior technician Machindranath Jalmi and the suspended postmortem attendant Prakash Narvekar. However police said that there are contradictions in their statements as such they will be called again for questioning.
It may be recalled that the Agacaim police on September 29 had registered an FIR against staff of department of forensic science medicine and toxicology and the case was subsequently transferred to the crime branch.
Exposing gross negligence, the GMC ‘erroneously’ disposed of the body of Januz Gonsalves (24) from Aldona in the place of an unclaimed corpse. In connection with the case, the police had attached two registers from the department of forensic medicine and toxicology and also a device which contains CCTV footage. A number of persons were also questioned.
Fearing arrest in the case, Dr Rodrigues had approached the District and Sessions Court, Panaji seeking anticipatory bail. After hearing the matter the court disposed off the anticipatory bail application and had directed the crime branch police to give Dr Rodrigues 48 hours advance notice in case of his arrest.
