Police to keep a special watch on vulnerable areas

Goa police will be adopting additional security measures in vulnerable areas and critical polling booths during the Lok Sabha polls.

According to information, a total of 24 vulnerable areas (17 in North Goa and 7 in South Goa) and 26 critical booths (5 in North Goa and 21 in South Goa) have been identified.

The vulnerable areas are those where there is maximum migrant population who could be possibly threatened or influenced by anti-social elements whereas the critical polling booths are those in which there was 75 per cent voting or a candidate had secured 75 per cent of the votes polled. The areas have been identified based on previous elections and also after taking into consideration the population residing in those areas, said sources.

Taking into consideration various aspects of security during the Lok Sabha polls, the Goa police held a briefing for its police officials at the GO mess of the Goa police at Altinho, Panaji on Wednesday.

The meeting was chaired by Director General of Police (DGP) Pranab Nanda, IGP Jaspal Singh. DIGs Rajesh Kumar and Parmaditya were also present.

During the meeting, issues related to security, law and order and other measures to be adopted during the polls were discussed, said sources. Police personnel have been instructed to be watchful during this period.

Police have been adopting a number of measures ahead of the Lok Sabha election and as part of the security, flag marches are being conducted in vulnerable areas. Flag marches by police as well as the central paramilitary forces are held to deter anti-social elements and to instil confidence in people.
