The Inner Wheel Club of Mapuca in association with the Usgaonkar family hosted the Poha Utsav, a cooking competition at the Bodgeshwar Hall in Mapusa, in memory of late Kumudinitai.
As part of the competition, there were two categories, namely, the main course/savoury (vegetarian) category and the dessert category. Each participant could prepare only one dish with the main ingredient being poha.
Chief quest at the function was Neela Dempo while the guest of honour was rotarian Manohar Usgaonkar. The panel of judges consisted of Anjali Walavalkar, Pranav Dhuri and Amol Desai. A total of 84 participants registered for the contest.
Participants were adjudged based on the uniqueness of the dish, creativity, presentation and taste. In the main course/ savoury category, the first place of `5000 was won by Sweta Desai for her dish ‘Pohe Dahi Bhalle’ while the second place of `3000 was won by Nutan Dabholkar for her dish ‘Poha posta’. The third place of `2000 was tied between Sandhya Falari for her dish ‘Magical Poha balls in tangy spicy sauce’ and Niyati Tergaokar for her dish ‘Ale paak’. The consolation prizes were won by Sushanti Naik for her dish ‘Poha Cutlet’ and Ratan Naik for her dish ‘Poha pulav’
In the dessert category, the first place of `5000 was won by Nisha Gad for her dish ‘Poha Matar Gulab Jamun’; the second place of `3000 was won by Pooja Naik for her dish ‘Poha Patoli’. The third place of `2000 was won by Sujata Natekar for her dish ‘Poha Mousse’. The consolation prizes were won by Seema Parab for her dish ‘Poha Burfi’; Anita Dhargalkar for her dish ‘Poha Modak’ and Vrunda Shenvi Desai for her dish ‘Poha Pan Patoli’.
