Three- day twin festivals ‘Poderachem Fest’ and ‘Zaddacho Utsav’ organised by Socorro Socio Art and Cultural Association, Porvorim was held at the Socorro Church Gardens recently. While the ‘Poderachem Fest’ aimed to revive the traditional ‘pao’ (bread) of Goa made using ‘sur’ (toddy) and the dying occupation of the ‘poder’ (baker), the ‘Zaddacho Utsav’ encouraged the masses to take up to healthier living options by eating healthy and organic produce, which can also help protect our ecology.
For the first time the organisers decided to have a ghumot session for women at the festival. Many women participated in this session. The participants also got to witness a session on making of mollams (mat made using coconut fronds). While people bought plants and relished traditional Goan dishes that were sold, people also participated in the sessions and talks delivered. The speakers included Bond Braganza, Miguel Braganza and Sunetra Talaulikar.
