PMSYM scheme launched in the state

The inaugural function of the Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maandhan Scheme for north and south Goa districts was held at Goa State Co-operative Bank Conference Hall, Patto Complex, recently. Shripad Naik, Minister AYUSH was the chief guest and Pramod Sawant, Speaker, Goa Legislative Assembly, presided over the function. The programme was conducted under the guidance of the Addl. Central PF Commissioner who is the nodal officer for the state.

Vinay Tendulkar and Narendra Sawaikar , were the chief guests for the south district while Vijay Sardesai was the guest of honour. The PMSYM scheme is meant for old age protection and social security of unorganised workers who are mostly engaged as rickshaw pullers, street vendors, mid-day meal workers, head loaders, brick kiln workers, cobblers, rag pickers, domestic workers, washer men, home-based workers, own account workers, agricultural workers, construction workers, beedi workers, handloom workers, leather workers, audio- visual workers or in similar other occupations. There are estimated 42 crore such unorganised workers in the country. To be eligible the beneficiary has to belong to the unorganised sector, age between 18 and 40 years and with monthly income below Rs 15,000. The minimum pension assured under the scheme is Rs 3,000 per month which will be payable only after completing 60 years.
