With an aim to provide a platform for youngsters to showcase their creative work, online platform ‘Novella’ is all set to launch their book titled ‘The Purple Jacket and Other Short Stories’ which features some of the best performing stories on their online website written by school children, college students and young professionals.
‘Novella.co.in’ is an online site that showcases works in short story fiction to avid readers. It was conceptualised and developed by Criador Solutions – a Goan start-up incubated in the Centre for Incubation and Business Acceleration – CIBA, Verna.
Curator of ‘The Purple Jacket and Other Short Stories’, Inacio Fernandes says: “We publish a lot of stories online and later we assess those and shortlist the best 25 stories based on their readership and analysis of the critics. We then approach the writers if they would want their stories to be published and if they agree we go ahead. In this case the copyright remains with the writers itself. ”
He adds that with the help of such initiatives they inspire and encourage other writers to engage in writing. “If you look at our authors list for this book you can find stories written by different age groups. We have stories written by a 10-year-old child and we have other stories which are written by college students and professionals. This platform is not only for authors or literature students but it is also for those who have explored other professional fields and areas but still hold the fire to write,” says Inacio.
Kayleigh Souza, Inacio Fernandes, Alisha Souza, Sonia Sabnis, Bhushana Naik, Rachael Ferrao, Tanvi Nayar, Sasha D’Souza, Nida Shaikh, Valery Colaco, Devashree Pai, Atmaja Mhamal, SC Jashmi, Shreen Falari and Ciano Fernandes are the authors whose have contributed their stories for this book. ‘The Purple Jacket and Other Short Stories’ covers various genres such as romance, tragedy, thriller and others.
While working on the book Inacio found that there are many youngsters who wish to write but are don’t get the right platform. “I found that people were happy to contribute their work for Novella as it gave them the audience they were looking for. Another thing is that they require a little bit of hand holding when it comes to language and editing; we do not mind helping them out with that.”
The foreword for the book is written by journalist and publisher, Frederick Noronha, and the stories are edited and curated by Inacio Fernandes.
