‘The Great Khali’ was born on August 27, 1972 in Himachal Pradesh, India. Born Dalip Singh Rana, he worked for the Punjab Police Department till he won the Mr. India bodybuilding contest in 1995.
Khali started his wrestling career in Japan in 2001 when he teamed up with Giant Silva to beat several heavyweights. His winning streak ended in 2002 when he was defeated by Silva himself.
In 2006, Khali was signed on by World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), becoming the first Indian professional wrestler to be inducted into the exclusive American wrestling company. One of Khali’s most memorable wins with the company came when he defeated the legendary Undertaker at Judgment Day.
After a short stint with the hit wrestling show Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW) on WWE, Khali signed on for Raw, where his opponents included John Cena, Kane, Shawn Michaels, Edge, etc. Khali won his first World Heavyweight Championship in 2007 when he was drafted for SmackDown! and defeated Kane and Batista. In 2008, Khali won the ECW Champion title against Chavo Guerrero. Besides his wrestling career, Khali is still on the Punjab police’s payroll. He has appeared in five Hollywood and two Hindi films, and finished as the first runner-up on the reality TV show Bigg Boss 4.
