Pilerne: Blockage in the PWD water pipeline is posing a problem to residents of Green Valley, Alto Pilerne. The residents are facing acute water shortage of PWD water for the last one month and are left with no choice but to depend on water tankers for daily use.
The residents have attributed the cause of water shortage due to a fault in the water pipeline and have urged the authorities to rectify the pipeline and restore water supply to them. The residents said that they are dependent on water tankers who charge exorbitant rates.
Francis Caldeira informed this daily that acute water shortage has put a lot of inconvenience to the working class and senior citizens. He said that due to the PWD pipeline fault the residents have to suffer.
PWD sources when contacted said that there is a blockage in the pipeline and it will take some time to rectify the error.
Pilerne sarpanch Amarnath Govekar said that Green Valley residents have not brought the issue to the notice of the panchayat, if not, the matter would have been raised with the authorities.
Assistant engineer Deepak Borkar said that the pipeline has been damaged due to some works carried out by the electricity department and mud has accumulated inside the pipeline. Borkar said that the PWD has not cleared the blockages.
Speaking further he said that the PWD has cleared a blockage. But after getting complaints that residents are not getting water, the PWD found that there is another blockage. Hence the PWD team is working to rectify the same and the residents will soon get regular water supply, said Borkar.
