What inspired you to get into photography?
Well, I started my career in designing and advertising. I was also a freelance desk top publisher and required photographs for publishing. This gave me the idea of learning photography myself. Although I had an affinity for clicking photographs and had started clicking at the age of 15, I wanted to learn the finer points and this made me join a basic course in visual art photography. This was for a month’s duration and it gave me the knowledge which I was searching for.
My other mentor in photography has been Prasad Pankar, who has also helped me a lot to become what I am today.
You are known for your black and white photography.
I enjoy black and white photography and I am inspired by it. I also do night photography wherein I click different images at night, which may be unknown to the ordinary man. For that I work between 12 in the night and 6 in the morning. Of late I am working on abstract or macrolandscapes which is mainly coloured photography.
Where have you exhibited?
I have had photography exhibitions at different places in Goa. I also exhibit my sketches and paintings which I am very passionate about.
How did you start painting?
I had the natural talent for painting, and on coming to Goa from Mumbai, I could not enter the Fine Art College for residency reasons. This did not put me off though, and I decided to learn the same from the internet and books. I also took the guidance of maestros in art such as Subodh Kerkar and Hitesh Pankar. I paint with charcoal and also use watercolours.
Do you select in advance what you wish to photograph or paint?
Most often, as I have a concept in mind which I wish to work on. I then search for images which closely resemble what I am looking for.
Have you won any awards in your career?
I participated in the Goa Association of Photographers competition in the year 2006 and I am proud to say that I secured the first place then.
Apart from photography, what are your other hobbies?
I am passionate about cooking and I also worked in a hotel earlier. I can make a Mexican, Oriental or Continental meal with ease.
