PANAJI: Following the outburst against Bharatiya Janata Party, a senior alliance partner in the government, the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) has succeeded in getting Goa Khadi and Village Industries Board in its fold.
The government has appointed MGP’s working president Adv Narayan Sawant as chairperson of the Goa Khadi and Village Industries Board. Under Secretary (Industries), Shaila Bhosle, on Thursday issued notification appointing Sawant as chairperson of the Board.
It may be recalled that last month MGP president Pandurang ‘Deepak’ Dhavalikar had stated that members of the party’s central committee were not happy with the functioning of the Manohar Parrikar-led coalition government, of which the oldest regional outfit is a part. Later, the party’s general secretary and former MLA Lavoo Mamledar alleged that BJP was discriminating between its alliance partners and giving more importance to its junior partner – Goa Forward party (GFP), when it came to power-sharing.
It is pertinent to note that following the remarks by MGP leaders over the government functioning and allotment of government bodies, GFP chief Vijai Sardesai, who is a minister in the government, had stated that his party is ready to sacrifice one corporation for MGP.
The government had appointed GFP’s senior vice president Monica Dias as chairperson of the Khadi Board; however, unfortunately, she passed away due to illness before taking charge of the office. Since then, the chairperson’s post was lying vacant.
