The process to procure material has begun and in two months by the end of monsoon, replacement of old transformers, conductors, poles, and fixtures will be done, Power Minister Pandurang Madkaikar assured officials of the power department in South Goa on Friday.
Madkaikar held a review meeting with senior and junior engineers of power department in South Goa district in view of the problems highlighted by legislators in the recently-concluded assembly session.
After the two-and-half-hour long meeting at the South Goa collectorate building, Madkaikar said, “Engineers put up their problems in view of those highlighted by the legislators. We will procure material and old conductors, poles and fixtures will be replaced in another two months.”
Madkaikar also said that a meeting will also be held with the North Goa power department engineers next week.
During the review meeting, the engineers raised the issue of old transformers which they said leads to low voltages and repeated breakdowns. They also demanded procurement of fault finding machines for the underground cabling system.
The minister also suggested making use of the available material till the department procures new material to provide better uninterrupted power supply. Madkaikar said that ninety per cent of ordinary streetlights will be replaced with LED lamps/ fixtures before the Ganesh Chaturthi festival.
