To conduct on-the-spot tests on the food served at eateries in the state, the food and drugs administration has procured a lab vehicle which will function as a ‘food safety on wheels’.
Coming out with this information on Thursday, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said the food safety lab vehicle will be launched by Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on December 10.
He claimed that Goa will be the first state in the country to undertake such an initiative. Under the initiative, the FDA will conduct tests on food items, and report will be ready within 15 minutes.
The FDA will keep a watch on eateries for hygienic food.
The FDA will conduct tests across the state on its own, besides taking cognisance of complaints it will receive from people against hotels, restaurants and other eateries.
The minister said the FDA has procured the lab vehicle worth Rs 41 lakh using central fund.
