While the state government has not decided to shut down casino business in the river of Mandovi, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar in a written reply has said that government has decided to remove casinos from river Mandovi but till today no alternate feasible site has been finalised and the matter is under examination.
Two separate questions pertaining to offshore casinos were tabled by Chandrakant Kavalekar, MLA (Quepem) and Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco, MLA (Curtorim).
Parrikar said that 6 offshore licences have been issued by the state government for operating casino business. The matter pertaining to formulating casino policy is under examination, informed Parrikar.
Parrikar replied in negative to a question whether the Government Regulation Act barring the Goans from entering the casino is in force.
Replying to another question whether any Goans have become bankrupt and ruined their family life due to their addiction to visit casinos in the state, Parrikar said that no such instances have been brought to the notice of the government.
