MAPUSA: Valuables including cash, gold and silver items, worth around Rs 1.6 lakh have been stolen from the Ganesh temple at Arpora.
According to the information given by Anjuna PI, Mr Manjunath Dessai, the burglars effected entry into the temple on Saturday night through the side door by breaking open the lock and stole two gold chains, two silver crowns, a silver face, and cash worth around Rs 10,000.
Mr Dessai further informed that the miscreants had committed the theft so professionally that even after committing the theft the door was closed and the lock was put back in place in such a way that nobody could suspect anything amiss.
The PI said that even a police patrolling team had given two rounds near the temple on Saturday night but it was surprising that the culprits managed to give a slip to the police. The incident came to light on Sunday morning when the temple was opened for its daily rituals. Immediately a complaint was lodged at the Anjuna police station. A dog squad and finger print experts were also pressed into service.
PI Mr Dessai who along with other PSIs visited the temple immediately on receipt of the complaint said that he was confident about nabbing the culprits. A complaint of theft has been registered against unknown persons. Investigations are in progress.
