PANAJI: ‘Senior Citizens - Guide for Graceful Living’ authored by Goa-based chartered accountant Mr V B Prabhu Verlekar was released by social worker, Mr Ramkrishna V Naik, at a function held at ‘Sneha Mandir’ Ponda recently, by the Goa Hindu Association.
Legendary cartoonist Mr R K Laxman has specially drawn his ‘Common Man’ for the cover of this guide at the age of 86, as a special gesture to represent the spirit of senior citizens.
Mr Naik, who is also a veteran chartered accountant and who has dedicated his life for the cause of senior citizens, while addressing the gathering said, "Globalisation and liberalisation along with prosperity has also bought traditional Indian family values and relationships under strain, especially for senior citizens, who feel isolated and neglected and live in a vacuum." Elaborating further Mr Naik opined that the guide is unique and covers all aspects of lifestyle covering investments, taxation, health, security, self-empowerment, behaviour, concessions, facilities which will greatly help senior citizens to live a happy, healthy and productive life.
The author, Mr V B Prabhu Verlekar narrated the experiences which made him to compile this guide and hoped that it will reach out to maximum households for a happy family life. Earlier Mr Shridhar Kamat Bambolkar welcomed the gathering. Dr Narayan Desai and Dr Baban Kakodkar spoke on the finer points and the contents of this guide about facilities and concessions available to senior citizens. Secretary of the Goa Hindu Association, Mr Vinay Borkar proposed the vote of thanks.
