Parrikar assures to take up matter in Assembly

PANAJI: The indefinite hunger strike by the 74 daily wage/contract workers of the malaria diseases control programme, who are protesting their termination of their services, entered its 7th day on Friday, which also saw the BJP leaders, pledging their support to these workers.

The Leader of the Opposition, Mr Manohar Parrikar extended his full support to the striking workers and promised to take up their matter in the Assembly. Soon after, the BJP state president, Mr Laximikant Parsekar also called on the striking workers and said that injustice has been done to the workers.

Mr Parsekar, criticising the Digambar Kamat government said that even though this government claims to be a government of the amm admi, the amm admi has to come on the streets to seek justice. Mr Parsekar also said the government should have taken these workers into consideration at the time of recruitment, since they have served for a long time.

During the day, a host of BJP leaders kept trickling in one by one, including the party general secretary, Mr Govind Parwatkar, Mr Rajendra Arlekar, Mr Milind Naik among others. Meanwhile, five striking workers have been hospitalised so far after their condition deteriorated due to the fast, however, their condition was
stated to be stable.
