Orders on bail plea of tainted cops on April 5

PANAJI: The hearing on the bail application of the police inspector Ashish Shirodkar and constable Sayesh Pokle was completed on Wednesday and the decision has been reserved for Monday, April 5.

While the two other constables Hussain Shaikh and Sandeep Parab will be produced before the judge on Thursday for further remand.

Earlier, the constable Ramchandra Kankolkar alias Builder was arrested by the Crime branch and after serving 14 days police custody has been sent to judicial custody. They were arrested for their alleged nexus with an Israeli drug dealer.

All the cops were serving 14 days in police custody and their presence was required in the custody for interrogation and investigation. These cops were arrested under Sections 120(b) of Indian Penal Code and 7, 11 and 12 of Protection of Corruption Act and Section 8(b) read with 28, 29, 30, 39 and 59(b) of NDPS Act and all these are cognizable and non bailable sections.

This is the fall out of the controversial tape, in which the alleged Israeli drug dealer in his confession on hidden camera had contended that Shirodkar was selling him drugs stolen from ANC custody.
