PANAJI: The excise commissioner, Mr Sandeep Jaques has said that his department collected additional revenue of a little above Rs 16 crore more than the government set target of Rs 88 crore during the just ended financial year 2009-10.
The total revenue collected by the department till March 31 was a little above Rs 104 crore.Mr Jacques said the jump in revenue collection has been due to the steps initiated by his department to minimise the leakages and tightening of loopholes. He went on to add that the department has been taking steps to plug all the loopholes that come to its notice, even as he said that despite all the measures taken there could be some scope for the liquor industry to evade payment of revenue to the department and it could take some more time to tighten the screws.
