PANAJI: The Chief Minister, Mr Digambar Kamat on Friday said that the Goan ore export seems to be minimally impacted by China’s ban on the ore having below 60 per cent FE content.

“China is known to change its policies very fast, and we are waiting to see if it reviews this policy in the near future,” he added.
Speaking to the media at the Maquinez palace, the Chief Minister further said that the State Mining Policy is ready and is before the law department for vetting. “We are also working over certain modalities of the policy,” he pointed out, noting that the policy would soon come before the state cabinet for its approval.
The Chief Minister also said that a ministerial level meeting to discuss the proposed Charvanem dam was held on Friday at the Secretariat. “We have asked the concerned department, that is, the department of water resources to seek forest clearance for the dam project,” he informed.
It may be recalled that a number of locals and environmentalists had opposed the Charvanem dam project, when thousands of trees were illegally cut to make way for the dam. Subsequently, the project, which is located in the vicinity of Mhadei wildlife sanctuary, was stopped in February 2007.
