Majorda shack NOC revoked

MARGAO: The director of tourism, Mr Swapnil M Naik, on Thursday revoked the No Objection Certificate granted to erect a shack at Majorda, allegedly located in the ‘No Development Zone’ following a complaint by Mr Aleixo Arnolfo Pereira from Utorda-Majorda village.

Mr Naik stated that Mr Pereira has enclosed documents including the report of the collector, South Goa, which was submitted in the High Court, to support his case. While revoking the NOC, Mr Naik said that there is a structure on the beach front, but since the owner of the property could not produce the relevant documents, the said structure has been sealed by the collector. He said, "Whereas, based on the objection, the undersigned directed the IA (South) Mr Karekar to visit the site and report on the structure and its status. The report said that the structure is not temporary but made of steel pipes, etc.’

Mr Naik said that this directorate was kept in the dark about the report of the collector, submitted to the High Court, and also the fact that the structure was already constructed on October 23, 2009, even before the application to this office was made on October 30, 2009, thus attracting the condition No 16 of the NOC.

He further said that condition No 3 of the NOC has also been violated, as the structure is made of steel etc, which is totally prohibited.

Revoking the NOC, he issued directions that the security deposits submitted by the party shall be forfeited, and the applicant was also debarred from applying for NOC for the structure in the private property for the next three years/tourist seasons.

When contacted on this matter, the sarpanch Ms Visitation D’Silva, said that she was ordered to conduct a personal hearing in this matter by the High Court, however, she is yet to receive the order from Mr Naik, she said.
