PANAJI: A panel of Goa Medical College doctors in their preliminary report, after performing the post-mortem on the body of British fugitive of Indian origin – Ajay Kaushal -- has said the 50-year-old person died of “natural causes”. The deceased was lodged in the Sada sub-jail while in judicial custody.
The post-mortem on the Briton, who died while in judicial custody, was performed at the GMC by the panel of doctors who during the course of post-mortem found that the man had extensive infection of lungs (haemorrhage pneumonitis), following which he was unable to breath and that could have led to his death.
Since the panel found powdery substance in the stomach of the dead person and it has not been able to conclude the exact cause of death, it has preserved the viscera that would be sent for chemical analysis along with the powdery substance, while histopathology would be performed on his organs, said the sources in the GMC.
The family of the deceased, which had flown down from the United Kingdoms was briefed of the autopsy, which was done under videography as it was a sensitive case. Earlier, the sub-divisional magistrate made a panchama of the body. The autopsy that began at 11.15 a.m. lasted till 1 p.m.
The deceased was reported to be in “good health” on Monday night when he went to bed but suddenly he took ill and sought medical help in the early hours of Tuesday. He was rushed to the Cottage Hospital at Chicalim and later shifted to the GMC, where he is reported to have died before admission.
