PANAJI: The Chief Minister, Mr Digambar Kamat highlighted the vital role of women in social transformation and underscored imbibing of high human values in children so that they could become responsible citizens of tomorrow.
The Chief Minister was speaking as the
chief guest after inaugurating a day-long Mahila Melava organised by the Institute Menezes Braganza (IMB) in association with other women organizations in the city on Saturday.
Noted actress, Ms Varsha Usgaokar was special invitee on the occasion.
Speaking further, Mr Kamat said, though Goa state is getting awards for last few years in the area of women empowerment, the efforts are to empower illiterate women in Goa in real sense of the term.
He said in Goa environment is conducive for the development and empowerment of women. The government has been implementing a number of schemes for the benefit of women, he added.
The Chief Minister also said that the society should give due respect to women, which will pave the way to solve most of the problems.
Ms Usgaonkar expressed happiness at the organization of Mahila Melava and seminar on issues related to women.
She said, women have made their mark almost in all fields of human endeavour and highlighted the importance to preserve age old tradition and culture and identity of the land.
She mentioned about leadership qualities in women which they develop while managing their families.
The editor of Gomantak and president of Gomantak Sahitya Sevak Mandal, Mr Suresh Naik, chairman of Goa Konkani Akademi, Mr N Shivdas, Ms Pramod Salgaonkar, chairperson of Goa State Social Welfare Board, Ms Manisha Naik, Ms Hema Nayak, Mr Ramesh Veluskar were amongst those present on the occasion.
The vice chairman of Institute Menezes Braganza, Mr Mohandas Surlikar welcomed the guests, Ms Poonam Umare compered while Mr Ashok Parab, member secretary, IMB proposed the vote of thanks.
