MARGAO: The first hearing of the infamous Margao bomb blast case, will be held before the session judge South Goa, on June 8. The notices to this effect have already been issued by the court.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA), which had taken over the investigations of the bomb blast cases, from the state police’s Special Investigation Team (SIT), after completing the investigations filed a charge sheet in the court of the session’s judge, South Goa, on May 17.
Three alleged accused in the case are Vinayak Patil, Vinay Talekar, and Dilip Mangaonkar, who are presently in custody of police, have moved bail application for their release, stating that they have been falsely implicated in the case. The arguments on their bail application will be heard on June 8.
The NIA has filed the charge sheet in the sessions court against 11 alleged accused. The number 1 and 2, Malgonda Patil and Yogesh Naik, who died in the blasts and are also shown as accused in the case, while five others, numbered at 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11 are shown as absconding. Dhananjay Asteker, Vinayak Patil, Vinay Talekar, and Dilip Mangaonkar are presently in police custody in connection with the case.
All accused has been charge sheeted under section Sec 120B 121 of IPC and section 16, 18 and 23 of Unlawful Activity Prevention Act-2008, and 3, 4 and 5 of Explosive Substance Act.
The police had initially registered a case against the two suspects, now deceased, Malgonda Patil and Yogesh Naik. They were booked under sections of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act and the IPC, for waging war against the nation. The police had also defused two IEDs at Sancoale, 30 kms away from Margao.
The case was handed over under the NIA Act-2008. The Centre had ordered handing over the investigation of the Margao blast from SIT to NIA, a federal agency, formed to probe terror-related events after the 26/11 Mumbai attacks
