Govt officials conduct site inspection of Anjuna project

Mapusa: The BDO officials and the forest department today conducted a site inspection at Anjuna were allegedly illegal houses under the pretext of farm houses have been allegedly approved by various government departments. the work has been stopped.

The action comes following intervention of Revenue Minister Mr Jose Phillip D’Souza.

It was learnt that according to the forest officials there were 66 trees that were illegally cut.  

it may be recalled The Residents of Anjuna under the banner of Anjuna Rakhan Manch have come together to protest against what they claim are illegal houses under the pretext of farm houses that have been approved by various government departments.

Sensing a big fraud in the entire process the activists said that documents obtained by them from the Anjuna talathi and the Mahiti ghar with regard to the controversial approvals given to one Panorama Harvest Collective farming society , varied.

The activists have pointed out that there has been rampant destruction of the natural cover and as Anjuna has always been suffering because of these projects who come and destroy Anjuna , this time also the destruction of the natural cover of Anjuna was certain . Just a few days back these residents had marched to the office of the deputy collector and the BDO of Bardez to voice their grievances. Pointing out that the construction allowed has been in a no development zone the activists said that the property has been a hillock and could not be destroyed.

According to the activists though the promoters of the project have applied for permission for farmhouses in reality the buildings indicate that the bungalows are penthouse suites. They also claimed that the documents of any mutation if done of the entire property of an area of 3,88, 450 sq metres were not traceable with the office of the Mamlatdar and also the fees collected by the tenants who claim to have sold that property was just rupees sixty two thousand. Claiming that all norms and procedures have been violated with respect to this plot the activists have sought to know how approvals were given to this party by various government departments including the local panchayat.
