PANAJI:  A recent report presented by the Vice-Chancellor of the Goa University, Prof Dileep Deobagkar to the Governor and University Chancellor, Dr S S Sidhu, as regards the address by the Congress general-secretary and MP, Mr Rahul Gandhi to the students, in the GU campus, last month, states that the Goa Pradesh Youth Congress misused the university campus.

The report maintains that the local unit of the Congress party had written to the Goa University that Mr Gandhi wanted to interact with the students and hence needed the GU premises, upon which the university authorities handed over the same, on the condition that the meeting should strictly be an apolitical one.
“The investigation into the matter has however, revealed that the interaction ended up to be a political meeting,” it adds.
The report also points out that Mr Gandhi himself informed the media his objective behind interacting with the students, namely propagation of National Students Union of India, an organ of the Congress party.
Stating that the Goa University had not invited Mr Gandhi, but he was in Goa on the invitation of Goa Pradesh Youth Congress, the report noted that the GPYC never tried to rubbish the appeal by Mr Gandhi to the students, to join politics, which proves the political nature of the interaction, which took place in the university campus on January 19.
