PANAJI: Like lakhs of foreign tourists who throng the state, David Coleman Headley, linked to 26/11 attacks in Mumbai, too visited the state and stayed in Pernem taluka for almost a week.
Perhaps having been informed by the American investigators about the visit of Headley, who is alleged to be a Lashkar-e-Toiba operative, to Goa, a team of the National Investigating Agency officials visited the state and enquired with the police and locals at the places where the Pakistan-born American national stayed.

With his American identity, he perhaps must have escaped the attention of the local police and intelligence officials, as was the case with the police in Mumbai and other parts of the country, where he went unnoticed.  He is reported to have stayed in Morjim and Arambol.
Though the police are tightlipped about the purpose of visit of the NIA team, a few senior police officials confirmed that the team had visited Goa recently. “We do not have any information about the real purpose of the visit of NIA team but the team did visit the state,” said a senior police official.
When asked whether it was for probing the visit of Headley, the official said the state authorities were not aware of the purpose. He also denied about knowledge of the visit of Headley to the state and his terror plans.
