Ponda pharmacist accused of rape

PONDA: Shyam Vijay Kumar (25), a pharmacist from Ponda allegedly raped a 21-year-old married woman in his flat after he offered her coffee laced with sedatives, informed Ponda police.


The victim who was accompanied by her cousin also drank the coffee and fell unconscious but did not complain of rape, police added.
The victim who is from Mestawadda, Ponda has lodged a complaint that the alleged accused called her at his Ponda flat on the pretext that he had two couple passes of orchestra and that she should come along with her friend and later forcibly had intercourse with her in his flat, police said quoting the complainant. The incident occurred on Friday afternoon at around 2 p.m. The victim has a 3-year-old son and is believed to be a divorcee, informed police.
PSI, Mr Laxi Amonkar, the investigating officer, informed that the victim took 24 hours to regain consciousness. The accused and the victim were medically examined and the reports are still awaited, he said.
The accused has been booked under Sections 376 (rape) and 328 (for administrating toxins into the consumable items). He will be produced in court today.
