POINGUINNIM: The Canacona police informed that they have arrested four persons from Gulem, Canacona, for allegedly abusing and assaulting Ujwala U Velip at her residence on May 26. They have been charged under Section 338 (grievous injuries) and Section 504 read with Section 34 of the IPC.

According to Canacona police, the four, whose names were given as Santosh Mono Gaonkar, Sangtu alias Ram Velip, Lakshavati Sangtu Velip and Neelima Velip, all with common intention assaulted Ujwala causing her serious injuries. Santosh assaulted her with a stone, while the other three proceeded to assault her with punches and slaps, the police said.
The police informed that the accused simply picked up a quarrel with Ujwala and when she questioned them, all of them charged at her and assaulted her.
The police arrested all the four and later released them on bail with a surety in like amount of Rs 10,000 each.
Further investigations are in progress by head constable, Mr Ashok Parwar under the supervision of police inspector, Mr Raju Raut Desai.
