Former PMC chairperson unhappy over delay in pre-monsoon works

PONDA: The former chairperson of Ponda municipal council (PMC), Mr Sanjay Manu Naik has expressed fear that if PMC fails to take up pre-monsoon works latest by next week, there is every possibility of monsoon woes that could hit the
city.

He said that nullahs in the city needed urgent attention as they are filled with waste and silt. "If nullahs and drains are not cleaned on priority, there is every possibility of flooding, particularly around old bus stand and Dag," Mr Naik informed.

"There is substantial pre-monsoon work that is to be carried out and the month of March was the right time to commence it and if they (PMC) don’t start the work latest by April 1, then the citizens will be forced put up with the monsoon woes," he rued.

According to him, if PMC engage 60 labourers for the work it will require minimum two months to complete the pre-monsoon works of the city," he disclosed adding that few places needed to be taken up on priority.

Mr Naik further explained how he had previously carried out pre-monsoon works by personally supervising it.

Interestingly, Mr Naik’s comments have raised many an eyebrow as he too belongs to Mr Sinkre’s group. It is learnt that Mr Naik is unhappy over the continuation of the chairperson, as it was decided to share the chair with other councillors. It is also learnt that those who are in the line to occupy the chair are secretly working on the strategies to topple the chairperson with a no confidence motion against him.
