Decision soon on CBI probe into cop-drug mafia nexus: CM

PANAJI: The Chief Minister, Mr Digambar Kamat has said that his government would take a decision shortly on whether to hand over the police-drug peddler nexus case to the Central Bureau of Investigation.

Mr Kamat told The Navhind Times late on Thursday evening that the file pertaining to the issue was not put up before him till 10 p.m. on Thursday. He also said the file has to be routed to him after following due process by the state government officials.
The decision would be taken after the Chief Minister holds consultation with the Home Minister, Mr Ravi Naik, and the state Chief Secretary, Mr Sanjay Kumar Shrivastava over the issue.
In view of the case coming up for hearing before the Panaji bench of the Bombay High Court on Friday the decision could be taken latest by Friday morning, said  sources in the government. The High Court had told the prosecution on Wednesday to check with the government whether the case would be handed over to the CBI.
The state police have arrested seven police personnel, including an inspector, and two drug traders Yaniv Benaim alias Atala and David Griham alias Dudu in different cases relating to drug trafficking in the state.
