Cuncolim vandalism accused remanded

MARGAO: Fenny Britto, who was arrested for his alleged involvement in Cuncolim vandalism, was produced before the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), Margao, on Tuesday and seven days police remand was taken.

Being a hearing and speech impaired person, Fenny was also taken to Sanjay Centre on Tuesday where his statement was recorded by an expert.

Police said that as per his statement no one had motivated him to carry out the act and that he had done it out of frustration. He has further stated that he often used to pray with god for good life but as nothing good happened, he got frustrated and vandalised the cross. Police said that he was in an inebriated state at the time of carrying out the act.

Police said that they recovered one of his sandals near the cross while the second was found at his residence at Veroda.

It may be recalled that a cross situated by the roadside and a window glass of of St Anthony’s church were found broken on Sunday night.

Police have registered the offence under Sections 295, 295A, 153 and 447 of Indian Penal Code (IPC).
