CANACONA: In an attempt to crack down on illegal structures and constructions in the CRZ, the Canacona Municipal Council (CMC), on Wednesday, sealed one illegal construction at Sawantwada, Canacona, after it was issued show cause and final notices.

This was the result of several written complaints from the local residents.

According to the chief officer of the Canacona Municipal Council, Mr Deepak Desai, a complaint has been received by the municipality from Mr Sarvesh Uttam Sawant, a resident of Sawantwada, Canacona, against Mr Pradeep Pyarelal Duggal, in connection with the illegal construction in the property under survey no 105/11 and 105/12 of revenue village Nagarcem-Palolem in CRZ area.

The municipality had issued final notice on January 7, directed Mr Duggal to demolish the said construction.

Mr Desai further said that Mr Duggal preferred to appeal before the Municipal Appelette Tribunal at Panaji, against the final notice, towards the illegal construction and operation of the impugned order, stayed ex-parte by the tribunal.

The municipal officials said that Mr Duggal continued with the illegal construction activity/development in the above case, even when the matter was subjudice before the Municipal Appelette Tribunal.

The chief officer then asked Mr Ashank M N Gaonkar, municipal engineer, Mr Yesso, municipal inspector Mr V Desai and Mr Krishna M Desai, superintendent, attached to the Canacona Municipal Council to seal the unauthorised premises, and to file a compliance report immediately with the detail panchanama.
