Greeting people on the occasion of the Statehood Day while addressing a gathering at a function to release the first edition of Goa Vacancy and Tender Bulletin, Mr Kamat, who was impressed by the performance of the Goa Printing and Stationery Department’s performance over the last two and half years, also said that it should be the endeavour of all the government servants to work sincerely and dedicatedly to the satisfaction of the common man.
He assured all help to the management and staff of the department to make it the best in the country even as he directed the Chief Secretary, Mr Sanjay Kumar Shrivastava to use the technology used in the Government Printing Press (GPP), in other departments frequented by public from where many complaints of inefficiency and corruption were received so as to end the problems.
He also said that the director of printing and stationery department, Mr N D Agrawal, should be given charge of various other departments to bring in discipline among their staff and also to increase efficiency and end all illegalities. He further said that GPP was a department which many officers did not take seriously leading to it almost becoming an unresponsive department, which was changed by Mr Agrawal.
The Power Minister Mr Aleixo Sequeira, who is also in charge of printing and stationery department, said that the event was a red letter day for the department as it has shown that it was capable of meeting the challenges and delivering goods to the people. He said that steps taken by the department would only help in bringing in more transparency in the recruitment process and award of tenders.
Stating that the employees of the department should be proud to be the employees of the first printing press in Asia, he said that the department has changed for good from its past and urged the director and the staff to work dedicatedly to take it to greater heights. He also said that more features would be added to the bulletin in the days to come. The PWD Minister, Mr Churchill Alemao was also present.
The Chief Secretary said that releasing the first issue of the bulletin on the occasion of the Statehood Day was the right day to show achievement. He said that efforts should be made to provide more information to the people, even as he called upon the staff of the department to make it more efficient.
Earlier, Mr Agrawal told the gathering that the bulletin would link the department directly with ‘aam admi,’ which would also help in testing the department’s efficiency. Giving a brief of the department’s performance under him, he went on to add that it was given the target of collecting revenue to the tune of Rs 71.5 lakh in the budget for the year 2009-10 but it exceeded the target by nearly Rs 1.06 crore as it contributed more than Rs 1.77 crore to the state treasury, an increase by over 248 per cent.
Stating that GPP was fully disabled-friendly, he went on to add that it was the only government printing press in the country which has made available the list of publications in Braille on the sale counter.
