PANAJI: The Chief Minister, Mr Digambar Kamat, in a reply to a Calling Attention Motion as regards fear and anxiety in the minds of the people pertaining to the hill cutting at Consua, in the village panchayat of Cortalim-Quelossim said that a committee under the
chairmanship of the Commissioner and secretary for town and country planning has been constituted with representatives of various departments, to look into the matter, as the subject being multi-disciplinary to devise a policy on various aspects of hill cutting.
"The concerned authorities are being directed to take necessary measures and therefore, there should not be any fear and anxiety in the minds of the people," he added.
The Chief Minister also stated that in the particular case, complaint regarding the cutting of sloppy land had been received by the Mormugao taluka level office on March 17, 2010, and pursuant to it, a site inspection had been carried out by the officials of the office, and a complaint filed with the Verna police station on March 25.
SPORTS POLICY: In another Calling Attention Motion tabled by the Aldona MLA, Mr Dayanand Narvekar as regards fear and anxiety in the minds of the sportspersons of Goa pertaining to a reported decision of the government to give 3 per cent marks to the sportsmen in the annual examination for academic year 2009-10, in variance with the Goa Board’s recommendation to grant up to 52 marks for different sportsmen, the Minister for Education, Mr Atanasio Monserrate said that the Goa Board has not taken any final decision about granting up to 52 marks for different sportsmen.
"The matter was discussed in the executive council of the Goa Board meeting and it is understood that the Goa Board is planning to forward a suggestion to the government in this regard," the Minister for Education said, further informing that in the meantime the Goa Board is going ahead by adopting the recommendation of Goa State Sports Policy 2009 to award sports merit marks ranging from 5 marks for taluka level to 40 marks for international level participation in sports. "The recommendation of the Goa Board, if any, has not yet been received by the government," he pointed out.
Mr Monserrate also said that any other decision about the marks for sportspersons can only be reached at by the state cabinet.
