Following the call by the top official of the anti-corruption wing of the Central Bureau of Investigation recently to the people.
PANAJI: Following the call by the top official of the anti-corruption wing of the Central Bureau of Investigation recently to the people of the state to inform the agency official about cases of corruption, the state office of the CBI has been flooded with calls from state citizens about various instances wherein government officials were accused of indulging in corrupt practices.
The CBI superintendent of police, Mr S S Gavli informed ‘The Navhind Times’ that most of the complaints of corruption received from public related to state government officials, whom the CBI cannot investigate as it has got no jurisdiction.
The CBI has got consent to operate in the state and probe only the corruption cases pertaining to central government and central agencies’ officials. The central government agency can also investigate the corruption cases specially assigned to it by the state government and cannot exceed its jurisdiction.
Mr Gavli also informed that many complaints received by the CBI through anonymous letters and phone calls were against state government officials in the revenue, panchayat and other departments. He also said that some complaints pertained to adulteration of petroleum product, which the CBI investigated and took action recently.
He further said that people should file complaints of corrupt practices involving the central government officials and not of the state government officials.
The additional director of Central Bureau of Investigation (anti-corruption bureau), Mr Rishi Raj Singh had called upon people to report any cases of corruption relating to central government servants or those of the central agencies including petroleum companies and their officials, etc.
