Addressing reporters after inaugurating the new office of the CBI at Bambolim, Mr Singh said the case against Mr Parrikar was strong, which would surely lead to filing of a charge-sheet. He said that evidence has been found by the investigating agency against the then chief minister in the creation of infrastructure for holding the International Film Festival of India in 2004.
He further said that over 75 per cent of the investigation in the case was already completed and the remaining 25 per cent, in which 2-4 charges were to be proved, would be completed in near future and the charge-sheet filed in about six weeks from now. The main charges in the case relate to “misappropriation” of funds while setting up infrastructure for the IFFI, renovation of Kala Academy.
He denied that the case was ever “rejected” by the CBI even as he said the case was being monitored by the High Court saying that ever since the case was transferred to the state office of the central investigating agency a little over a year ago. Mr Singh also said the agency was probing 22 charges against the BJP leader adding further that if need be Mr Parrikar would be summoned again for questioning.
The CBI top official in the Goa-Maharashtra region further said that all government officials, including those of central services posted in Goa, and connected with the case have been questioned by the CBI and others, including political persons, would be quizzed to unearth the evidence before a charge-sheet was filed.
Mr Singh said  the other corruption-related case being investigated by the CBI was relating to evasion of customs duty by the Adani group in connivance with some customs officials, who have sought anticipatory bail and the case was being heard by the court. He said that probe in the case was 85 per cent complete and charge-sheet was likely to be filed in about a month’s time.
The CBI additional director called upon local police officials to join the force on deputation saying that the job was not only challenging but fetched additional 25 per cent salary and also that they were placed on one higher rank than the post held by them. Besides, deputation pay was also higher. He also said the police officials would have seven years’ assured posting in Goa.
