MARGAO: The Carmona panchayat gram sabha has okayed a budget proposal of Rs 72 lakh for the year 2010-11 at the gram sabha held on Sunday morning.
Although lengthy discussions were held on various subjects such as sports and other developmental activities with some members pointing out that more funds need to be allotted for the village development in the future, the gram sabha members expressed satisfaction with the working of the panchayat and the developmental work conducted by it under the sarpanch, Mr Eustaquio D’Costa in the 7-member panchayat body.
The gram sabha members unanimously supported a proposal for setting up a mini Ravindra Bhavan with the sarpanch announcing that Mr Churchill Alemao has promised the panchayat that the project will come up soon in the village under the RDA scheme.
The sarpanch put the cost for the mini Ravindra Bhavan at Rs 42 lakh adding further that Mr Alemao, who is also holding the RDA Ministry, has given a word to finish this project at the earliest.
The sarpanch said the min Ravindra Bhavan will come up at Jigmorod and that the space for the project has been already okayed and that all the formalities in this respect will be completed soon. The foundation stone for this project will be laid by Mr Churchill Alemao shortly and the work too could begin as soon as possible, he announced at the gram sabha.
It was also announced that the Carmona football ground located very close to the community hall of the panchayat would be a good football ground after the lawn carpet is laid on it. The process of putting this lawn is on, the sarpanch said, amidst cheers from the youngsters who were present at the gram sabha.
The Raheja land development project was also passed among several other developmental proposals such as the construction of interior roads, BPL schemes etc.
The gram sabha meeting was well conducted in a spirit of cordiality and co-operation from the gram sabha members as well as the elected panchas. Out of seven members only one gram sabha member was absent today.
