The crucial budget session of the state legislative assembly would start on Monday
PANAJI: The crucial budget session of the state legislative assembly would start on Monday, amidst signs of rapproachement between the Congress and its allies, whose relationship was hit by a series of allegations from both the sides.
This being the first session of the year 2010, it would begin with the customary address by the Governor, Dr Shivinder Singh Sidhu on the opening day. The House would then discuss the motion of thanks to the Governor’s address during its five-day session.
The government would provide answers to 554 questions raised by the members of the House. The questions include 215 starred questions and 339 unstarred questions. The members are also expected to raise calling attention motions, besides making zero hour mentions on various issues of public interest.
The Chief Minister, Mr Digambar Kamat would present the budget for the financial year 2010-11 and seek vote on account for the first four to five months of the new financial year. Besides, he is also likely to present demand for supplementary grants for the current financial year.
A number of government bills and private member resolutions would be taken up in the House during the session. Among the government bills that would be introduced in the House are the Goa State Commission for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes Bill. Besides, several bills to amend the existing acts would also be introduced in the House.
Meanwhile, strict security measures would be adopted during the House session in view of the directives from the central security agencies that disruptive elements could try to create problems. The Speaker, Mr Pratapsing Rane has already ordered that security be increased to prevent any eventuality.
