BJP will not support G7 moves, says Shripad

MARGAO: The BJP MP, Mr Shripad Naik refuted that the BJP would support the moves of the G 7, or were in any way connected with them , even as the GPCC chief, Mr Subash Shirodkar categorically denied that there were chances that the state would go for mid-term polls.

Mr Subash Shirodkar also said that though a change of leadership was one of the demands put up by the group of 7, he thought that "it has been sorted out. Though at what level I do not know."

Ruling out mid term polls, Mr Shirodkar, on the sidelines of a press conference told media that he did "not think that any of the sitting MLAs want dissolution, when they have a virtual term of 2 years to serve the people."

On the other hand the BJP MP, Mr Shripad Naik, on the sidelines of a religious function criticised the moves of this group of 7, saying that they were doing this for purely selfish motives and he did "not think this was for the good of Goans." He denied that his party had anything to do with it.

"Those who are doing it are not doing it for the good of Goa. And if we fall into this then it will be another mistake," he argued saying that most of the demands were related to SEZs, illegal mines and land deals. And most were detrimental to the state’s interests.

Meanwhile, Mr Shirodkar told media that most of the problems would be sorted out when the coordination committee met on March 31, but when specially asked about the demand for an apology sought from two Congress MLAs, he said that nothing had come to him, at least within the past two weeks.
