BICHOLIM: Nirupaksha alias Swami Maharudrayya, 29, a native of Belgaum but residing in a rented accommodation at Gaonkar wada, Bicholim, was found dead under mysterious circumstances on late Monday night.
According to the Bicholim police, the body was discovered under the bed in the room in which he was staying alone. The incident came to light when foul smell began to emanate from the room, following which the owner of the house, Mr Santosh Mandrekar, grew suspicious and lodged a police complaint at around 10 p.m.
Police rushed to the spot and broke open the door only to find the body in a decomposed state.
Police sub-inspector, Mr Terence Vaz conducted the panchanama under the supervision of police inspector, Mr Harish Madkaikar. Thereafter, the body was sent for post mortem at Goa Medical College (GMC) and Hospital, Bambolim.
Police said that the deceased was last seen by the complainant on Saturday. It is learnt that the deceased was staying with his wife and two children till two months back after which they were sent back to their native place and since then he was staying alone.
Police have registered an offence of murder under Section 302 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) against unknown persons. Police are awaiting the post mortem report to ascertain the cause of death. Further investigations are underway.
